On Wednesday I traded a little piece of paper of large value for a small bit of plastic and metal. Luckily that little fob has the neat side effect of making this larger piece of plastic and metal go vroom. :D
I say 'relevant again' because this is my second VW, the first being a 1990 Jetta coupe. This one is a 1.8TSI Trendline with a 5-speed transmission, which is the basemodel ('S' trim in the US, though that comes with leatherette seating whereas mine is cloth). I did get the only option available on this trim level, the cruise control package (included in the 'S' trim in the US), which includes the obvious cruise control but also this nice leather steering wheel with audio controls.

Hah, no gun neccesary. I've always generally liked VWs. I'm not as weary of the long term reliability as many in North America and with this one being new I don't expect to have to worry about it at all.
The wheels are not my favourite actually but they'll do perfectly as winter wheels when December rolls around. 195/65R15 Snow tires should be plentiful and not too expensive. I'll probably get a set of 17s or something for the non-winter months. A reasonable sidewall to keep the ride comfortable but big enough to make it look good.
I'm a big fan of this setup:
17" BBS SR.

Nice pickup. I'd have bought one of the MK7 GTIs already if our double stroller fit comfortably in the back. Alas no room for it and normal errand running :(
I really dig the SR look though. It will go very well with your color.

Thanks. Sounds like it's time to beg VW for a GTI or R variant of the Sportwagon.

Congratulations. That is a handsome car. Living where I do, I'm always astonished when someone has a car that they didn't get from Zipcar or Hertz.

Sweet car. Looking forward to your future comments on the 1.8T, as it technically has the same HP as my 2.5L but looks like it has far more torque and better economy.

Thanks. That's funny, living where I do, having a car (or at least access to one) is essential, in the picture of the interior, you can faintly see the end of the driveway the car is parked on, 300-400m away. The nearest town is a 15km drive. :)

Thanks. I'll probably put together a review after driving the car for a little while but initial impressions of the engine are good; its power delivery and economy were the biggest swing factor from the other cars I tested and considered. Best powertrain in the class, if you ask me.

My sister lives in the country (MD) and often chides for living here - then I ask her if she can have Turkish food delivered in 40 minutes, and she stops.

Fair point, but I like the peacefulness of living out here. Clean air, clear view of the night sky, peace and quiet. To each their own, really.

I had a house in the country once - Barnesville, MD. It was nice to see the stars at night.

If they make either one it is definitely on the short list .
